The SCA Barista Skills Intermediate training is spread over 2 days or 7 hours. You can book the exam separately and consists of 2 parts. A date will be scheduled for the practical exam in consultation. This can possibly take place in limited numbers immediately after the training. Once this has been achieved, you will receive a link for a digital written online exam. With a successful result you will receive an official certificate and 10 points will be credited to the SCA system.
Every 4th Thursday & Friday of the month we give an intermediate training. We can also plan another day on request. (email us at Trainingen@backtoblackcoffee.nl)
Duration – Training: 2 days or 7 hours, excluding exam
Exam – Practice (45 min.), theory (30 min.) to be done online up to 3 weeks after training
Included – Reader, use of equipment and ingredients, lunch and of course delicious coffee!
The training will be offered in English as standard. This can also be given in Dutch on request.
Completing the SCA Introduction to Coffee and SCA Barista Skills Foundation modules first is recommended, but not mandatory. The teaching material from these modules will be deepened, so experience and knowledge with this material is required. Do you doubt the level you are at right now. Then ask yourself the following questions. When they are all checked off, you are 100% ready for intermediate.
- I recognize differences between Arabica and Robusta.
- I recognize the taste differences between light and dark roasted
coffee. - I can work with a fixed espresso recipe.
- I can calibrate a coffee grinder for an espresso that falls within the brewing parameters suggested by SCA
. - I work with the correct distribution and tamping techniques.
- I have the right milk frothing technique for consistent fine foam.
- I understand the proper routine to achieve the desired espresso drink.
- I own the correct procedure in cleaning the grinder and espresso machine.
- I can describe the difference between low extracted / high extracted / acceptably extracted espressos.
- I can describe attributes of an espresso such as aroma / flavor / body
All amounts are incl. VAT. Costs of this training will be refunded upon cancellation up to 7 days before the start. With less than 2 students, the training can be moved to a later time.
